Nathan Tipton currently serves as Development and Communications Coordinator at Apelah Specialized Foster Care in Hernando. He is a native Louisianian, born in Baton Rouge, raised in New Orleans, and survived high school at New Iberia Senior High School, deep in the heart of Cajun Country. Nathan arrived in Memphis in 1983 where he attended Rhodes for his B.A. in English before going on to receive his M.A. and Ph.D. in Southern Literature from the University of Memphis in 2013. He is very active in the community, and is entering his second year as Ambassador for the Hernando Main Street Chamber of Commerce, where he was awarded both Ambassador of the Quarter and Ambassador of the Year in 2017. He was also a featured “Notable” in the November 2017 issue of DeSoto Magazine.
When he’s not out raising money and awareness for Apelah, Nathan loves cooking, baking (his King Cakes were featured on the front page of the Commercial Appeal’s Food Section back in February 2017), sampling craft beer, and spending quality time with his seven dogs including rock star and Twitter celebrity beagle basset @TucksAlmighty. Nathan and his husband Paul Foster have been married since 2014, but they’ve been inseparable since 1993 when they met on a blind date at a church hoe-down.
